drum and sound bending machine
Sound folding machine and pocket drum machine)
This is what I did in the past.
I was inspired after I found a vintage fire alarm case in a 2nd hand shop.
The drum machine is made of a birthday card with a small electric drum kit (
Very amazing actually)
There is also a small recorder module.
The drum can be recorded by bending the voice module through the circuit (
Other sounds if you like)
Then speed up the sound or slow down the sound.
You can also put the recording in a loop so it can play over and over again.
This project is not suitable for timid people.
A lot of tedious welding and subtle work needs to be done.
The drum kit is a bit fragile, so you need to be careful not to let the wires leave the welding point.
However, if you have medium skills with soldering iron, most hard parts can be processed easily.

It really depends on you.
Probably anything from the old walkie-talkie to the iron box.
Just make sure there is enough space inside to add electronics, batteries and wires. 2.
Drum kit sound card-both Kmart and Big W have this card if you live in Australia.

I suggest you buy two in case you mess one up. 3.
Voice module of EBay (buy 2 as well)4. Wire5.
Double-sided foam film 6.
2x1 m flower pot-ebay7.
2 x knobs -eBay8.
1 x switch-eBay.
You actually use 2 on/off switches, so get 2 if your case doesn\'t have a switch. 9.
2x instant switch-I used this one from ebaytool s1 and this one.
Soldering iron, 2. Pliers3.
Wire snips4. Dremel5.
Super glue 7.
Once you \'ve decided on a shell, the first thing you need to do is open it and remove any unwanted electronics.
You want to create as much space as possible within your shell.
Next you need to decide how to set up-
Your drum machine.
You need to have 2 pots, 5 drum pads and 5 switches.
I also added a diagram of how the sound module is wired-up.
This will help you understand how many switches are needed, etc. Steps:1.
Find out where you want to install the flowerpot.
Drill a few holes and put them in the second place.
Next, you need to connect a switch to turn the drum on and off.
My case comes with an on/off switch so I just used this one. 3.
You will also need to add two instant switches, one for recording sound and the other for playing sound.
The person who plays the sound only plays once and you need to add an on/off switch for loop 4.
Finally, you need to add 1 on/off switch (
If your shell is not yet)
For the loop effect. Steps:1.
Weld several wires to the welding point on the pot.
You need to weld one to the middle point and the other to the other.
The one you weld it will decide which way you have to turn the jar to speed up or slow down the sound. 2.
Weld the wire to all other welding points on the switch etc3.
Now you are ready to start the circuit bending time to the circuit bending!
Initially, I started welding the wires directly to the legs of the IC.
That doesn\'t work, so I decided to add the wires to the IC welding point.
I didn\'t take an image of all the wires step by step because it was so hard.
If you follow the chart, though you won\'t have any problems. Steps1.
Place the chart in front of you and start welding the wire in the switch and the pot to the right position. 2.
You also need to remove the microphone so you can
Weld this from the board.
Weld some wires to the battery welding point and the microphone welding point.
Connect the ends of these wires to the appropriate switch 4.
Next, weld the wires on the switch to the record and play Leg 5.
You also need to add a few wires to the pins shown on the drawing so you can loop the sound.
Do this and add them to a toggle switch 6.
Make sure you don\'t bridge any welding points and take the time to add all the wires. 7.
Make sure you don\'t get the wires too long, especially if your case is small, they can take up a lot of space before you stick anything down, first of all, make sure to test everything: 1. Power-
Test if the sound module is recording the sound. 2.
Next, play around with pots to ensure the speed of the sound
And slow down. 3.
Try the loop switch to see if this works as well. 4.
If everything is OK and you are happy with the sound of it, stick the speakers and modules together with some hot glue, the next step is to add the drum kit.
I played with this for a moment to quote, trying to figure out the best way to connect the drum to the sound module.
You can connect the drum so that the module can record directly through the microphone on the sound module instead of passively recording through the microphone, but I can\'t get rid of the distortion.
I tried different capacitors in different places but did not succeed.
I believe there will be other ideas on how to reduce distortion.
Finally, I decided to record the drum passively through the microphone. Steps:1.
RIP the card open and reveal the good things inside. 2.
Carefully remove the tape that holds the wire to the card 3.
Remove the pads from the foam tape and remove the speakers and circuit boards. You don\'t want to keep the batteries that come with the modules because they run out and you can\'t replace them. Steps:1.
The battery is fixed on the circuit board with small rivets and the rivets2 is removed using a drill bit.
The person making this board is friendly and can add several welding points to increase its external power.
Weld several wires to these welding points and test them to make sure the drum is still working.
You will find that the original switch is no longer working.
It doesn\'t matter because you will add your own later. 3.
The battery will be wired. up later.
Now is the tedious part.
To add pads that need to be canceled
Weld the wire from the pad and re-Weldsolder.
The wires are also thin. Steps:1.
Choose a mat. solder.
Take photos of the wires and how they are welded to the pads so you don\'t make mistakes when re-weldingsolder2. De-
Weld the pads and add some double sided foam straps to the back.
Fix the padded tape on the shell. 4.
Drill some small holes (
Depending on how many wires are welded on the pad)
Next to the welding point.
Pass the wire through the hole and reconnect
Weld the wire to the pad.
Do the same for 47 others.
Precautions for continuous testing: be careful because the wires are fragile and can fall off the pads.
If this happens, just re-
Weld the wire to the pad.
Worst case scenario is multiple wires coming off and you don\'t know where they should be welded!
This will not happen if you check regularly: 1.
First of all, you need
Weld the speaker from the drum kit and connect it to the same speaker used by the module.
Make sure you have the right polarity. 2.
To enable you to record the drum directly into the module, you will also need to connect the microphone to the speaker and switch in order to turn this off.
See the chart for how to connect this. 3.
To connect the on/off switch and the battery, you simply weld a battery wire to the switch and then to the battery.
You can use the same battery as the module.
So now you can play the drum machine. Steps:1.
Record some drums on the recorder.
You can also record sounds with drums if you want. 2.
Press the loop switch, the sound plays over and over again, and then starts playing at speed.
You will hear some very interesting sounds and beats from this little machine. 3.
Try recording directly into the module and play the sound this way.
I am very satisfied with the appearance of the roller machine.
The shell definitely gives it some style and retro style!
